80WSE was pleased to present the group show Growth Axis from May 4 to May 13, 2022. The exhibition, curated by NYU students of the Visual Arts Administration graduate program, showcases new works by students from the university’s BFA program.
The exhibition highlights the works of nine Gen Z artists who reflect on notions of “growth,” whether through specific works or in their overall practices. They approach, literally and conceptually, what it means to grow within a specific identity in a rapidly changing contemporary landscape. Darinka Arones, Clara Evaristo, Oscar Garay, Carlos Grajeda, Candice Lu, Natalia Palacino, Ian Porterfield, Hannah Rothbard, and Tasneem Sarkez reconfigure canonized versions of coming of age in this unprecedented era across different mediums such as painting, sculpture, photography, and video. They embrace fluidity, problematize standards of form, and challenge their place as artists within a rapidly shifting social context.
The exhibition is curated, produced, and managed by NYU students enrolled in the Curatorial Practice course, which provides hands-on experience in the development, curation, installation, and operation of exhibitions, programs, and events.
